  1. Thanks once again to Connected Isolation for this info. By knowing the rare and semi-rare game pieces, you can play the game much smarter than others because you needn't wonder whether you have somehow stumbled across a “rare” winning piece without yet obtaining the corresponding “easy” pieces. This is enormously useful.

I’d like to share some additional observations and thoughts in hope of sparing at least some people a lot of grief. I posted similar remarks last year, and I apologize for going on at such length. I don’t think the game is a scam, nor is it terribly deceptive, either. What I noticed from the comments section last year, however, is that many shoppers were bitter at having nothing to show after collecting hundreds of game pieces at great cost, and I think those hard feelings ought to be avoidable. (Here, I’m going to refer to all 18 supermarket chains in the game as Albertsons, the parent company.)

The first thing to understand is that there are 2,325 stores in 34 states and the District of Columbia in the Monopoly game (source: FAQ page on Monopoly game site). Six of these stores will get the ultra-rare game pieces for a $1 million prize, so there is a 1 in 387 chance that your store is one of them.

It is important to know that none of the three $1 million prizes were awarded in 2016 or 2015 (I do not have information for previous years). This can be determined from the prize info posted on the Monopoly game site last year and from the 2016 game boards, which identified some of the 2015 winners. It also appears none of the then-$500,000 vacation homes were awarded in these two years. When I checked at the end of the game last year, only two of the 25 $100,000 prizes had been claimed. Even way down the line, I counted only 10 jetskis and 10 family vacations claimed of the 50 supposedly up for grabs.

The reason for this is that it is exceedingly difficult to obtain both the rare and semi-rare markers for the top prizes. The game is designed that way.

Albertsons seems to understand this is a problem and is “guaranteeing” at least one $1 million winner this year with a “last chance” drawing, open to those who enter codes online. The rules on the game website indicate it will be awarded only if NONE of the three $1 million prizes or three $1 million vacation homes are claimed.

Two more points, and then I’ll shut up.

The game is masterfully designed to make you think you are “just one away” from all of the smaller prizes. After collecting hundreds of markers, it is likely you will have everything required *except* the rare pieces for almost all of the prizes. Albertsons wants you to feel you’ve been lucky, that you’re “close” to winning, so you’ll go back and shop more. But you can have six of the eight $1 million game pieces or even three of the four $5 cash pieces and be NO CLOSER TO WINNING THAN YOU WERE BEFORE THE GAME STARTED. Imagine what a difference it would make if all those pieces simply read, “Sorry, this is not a winner.”

My last point is this: There is nothing you can do to significantly increase your chances of winning a top prize. Note I say “significantly.” There are 1,239,300,000 game tickets that will be distributed (that’s 1.2 billion). Only six of these will win a $1 million prize. According to the game odds chart, each game ticket gives you one chance in 413 million to win one of the two $1 million prizes. If my calculations are correct (and someone can check my math on this), having 1,000 tickets instead of 500 tickets improves your chances of winning a top prize by only about one-tenth of 1 percent. This is not a statistically significant edge.

So: You should not buy products you would not ordinarily buy just to get more tickets, or pay prices you would normally not pay. This may help you win one of the very low-value prizes, but it is unlikely to get you the $1 million.

The contest is designed to make you alter your shopping practices. But you’ve read all the way to the bottom of this message, and now you're too smart for that.

    1. You make some good points about how hard it is to win the big prizes. I agree, even the small prizes are hard to win, for example the odds of winning the $5 prizes are just 1 in 1,549. It's fun to play but people need to keep in mind how difficult it is to win.

    2. Thank you for your post! It is good to look at the astronomical odds of winning as it's so easy to get caught up into thinking you are close to big prize.

    3. Jeff- I like how thorough you are wig this game. Great analysis. I have never won anything but it is fun to play. It does divert me from shopping at other stores, while this game is on.
In just three trips I have filled out most of the board. I received 16 tickets my first trip by just stocking up on things I was going to get anyway.
Bonne Chance everyone. It's a fun game.

    4. I love your post, Jeff! I never seriously believed I would win one of the major prizes. But I was bitter last year about not winning a mere $5 gift card. And the free item coupons were all for things I didn't need nor usually bought. So far this year, I've got coupons for an 8oz tub of Lucerne sour cream and one large Haas avocado. Now THAT's something! :)

    5. Something I would like to add which I learned on a different forum: When you repeatedly enter the game codes on the monopoly website, after a while you may stop winning any of those "2 free game pieces"... I noticed this last year, and there were others complaining about that as well. Someone suggested using different computers as it stops generating winning codes on the same IP address after a while. Someone else suggested having online monopoly accounts with different email addresses. I"m going to try both strategies this year!

    6. I just want to let people know that there are actually winners. My family just won $1000 in the online 2nd chance drawing. We alsoffer won 5 bucks and a 5 dollar gift card this year so keep playing!

    7. Great post! This makes me feel awesome because I actually WAS luck enough to win the $5.00 cash price on the 9J series! Woohoo! I'll keep playing and hoping though :-)

    8. I see that not to many people can win anything !!! They should go back to the cookware game,I did win 2 pieces of that... This game is a crock.

    9. Good and accurate post. Played a few times and never won a thing. Skipped last year due to all the work involved and didn't feel it was worth my time. This year haven't been game-piece purchase driven and have won $10 gift card and several free food items I can actually use. Yippee.

    10. Frustrating game, agreed!! BUT this year we've enjoyed winning a bunch of shutterfly stuff, including 3 reusable shopping bags and a couple of free photo books and a refrigerator magnet. Shutterfly has already sent us this stuff. Pretty cool.
For me the most annoying thing this year was the two free tickets prize when entering online codes. You have to print out the form, tape the game piece to it, bring it to the store....gah!! Would have been so much more practical for the ticket to just say 'two free game pieces!" OMG.

      Delete
    11. I hate the two free tickets from entering online codes...printing out the form...taping the game ticket...bringing the papers to the store...why not just say two free tickets on the original ticket??? However, weve won lots of cool shutterfly stuff and they've already sent them to us and they're nice!!

    12. Very good points but I will tell you this. I have opened a few thousand tickets and I got the 8YH on the first day, I have won about $500 bucks on INSTANT WINNERS, i have won the $5 GIFT CARD THREE TIMES, $5 CASH ONCE and just got 9BA from family vacation which is only semi rare but you are right with the odds of getting both tickets, straight stupid odds. The big thing is that if we only knew how many tickets are thrown in the trash can you would gag.I have pulled 70 tickets out at one time. I was throwing my lottery ticket away and they were right on top. I just got a $1000 On a $30 dollar ticket which the odds of that are pretty stupid too. I'm trying to tell you that even though the odds are crazy stupid, don't give up because the people who won the lottery, etc.. big money games were saying the same thing and now they're sitting pretty. Look at the candy, they have 3 for a dollar and get 3 free seals so that's 6 tickets for a buck. If you are going to alter your shopping, do it smart. Don't go from state to state like some of these people, thinking that their odds of getting the rare one is better by doing that. YOUR ODDS ARE NOT BETTER.I have been to ONE store for all my tickets.OUR ONLY CHANCE OF WINNING ANYTHING BIG IS BY TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE THAT ARE TOTAL STRANGERS PUTTING THEIR TWO TICKETS TOGETHER AND SPLITTING IT HOWEVER THEY FEEL IS FAIR FOR RARE AND SEMI RARE. If somebody has either of the two I need , I will take 30 percent and you can have 70 percent, no prob. Anyways it's fun, RIGHT? Don't dig yourself a hole to get tickets, enjoy yourself and the game. I sold my $1000 dollar lottery ticket for $400 CASH on the spot and they send it in and wait a month or two to get $700 after taxes. Peace people and good luck!

    13. Last year I had the semi rare ticket to win the vacation home and no one responded to my offer to share. Reason? They never awarded the 1st or 2nd place prizes in 2016 because people horded tickets and tried to sell them in 100 ticket boxes. Greed ruined my chance at a prize, I hope you have better luck!

    14. This is what ticked me off last year... my boyfriend and I collected thousands of pieces. We spent hours opening them all, entering every single code online, printing forms for bonus codes to take back to the store, etc etc. In the end we won 1 free bag of animal crackers, 1 free bag of chocolates, 1 free RedBox rental, and a $25 grocery gift card. The $25 card was so late in the game that we were about to give up. We carefully read the online instructions to redeem the gift card. We both read the deadline out loud, confirmed with each other, wrote on our calendars, etc to make sure we would get our hard earned $25. Well we went to the store the day before the deadline that was printed online (just to be safe) and they said we were one day late and could not redeem it! We pulled up the website to show them where we read the date and the website had already been taken down. We are both smart people and are exceptional at following directions. I am absolutely sure they had the wrong date published on the website. All that work and we couldn't even claim our prize due to their error!!! Effff this game!!!!!!!!!!!!

    15. It is also important to remember that the rare game pieces might be in the possession of someone who doesnt take the time to open and play them, or they have been thrown away. Many times I have found unopened game pieces on the ground of the parking lot of the grocery store. however, the fact that none of the major prizes have been won over the past two years speaks volumes. from what i remember, there was supposed to be a 2nd chance drawing for those prizes. The FTC supposedly regulates that sweepstakes rules are followed. So, any suspiscion that prizes are not awarded as promised should first be directed there instead of the company.

    16. How do we know that the game is not rigged?

If the parent company prints out millions more tickets than they expect to distribute with purchases, millions will be unclaimed by the end of the promotion, and one of those may be the winning prize.

I have played for years with my roommates, combining our tickets, and none of us have ever won anything.

The onerous process to get the 2 free game tickets is intentional. With each added step, more people do not claim the tickets, and more prizes go unclaimed.

  3. FIRST REPORT ON WINNERS
The Monopoly game website has some info on prizes claimed during the first two weeks or so of the contest (Feb. 8-23) and I don't think it's likely to make many people happy.

During this period four (and only four) prizes have been claimed from the level of smart watch ($300) and up: smart watch, $1,000 cash, $20,000 tuition and the first of the progressive jackpots (won by entering or scanning codes online), which was $7,457. According to a photo elsewhere on the site, the tuition was won by a Safeway shopper in San Jose. Two of the other prizes were won in "Northern California" (could be Safeway or Raley's); the $1,000 cash was went to someone in the "Intermountain" region (which the company map defines as Montana, North Dakota, most of Idaho and Utah, part of Nevada and a sliver of Colorado -- I don't think Albertsons is being deliberately vague here; they're ID'ing winners by their own corporate divisions, which do not follow state lines).

This is only through 16 days of a 91-day contest, so about 17 percent of the time has elapsed. The deadline to claim a prize is not until May 30.

These results, however, are completely in line with my comments above about how difficult it is to obtain both the ultra-rare and semi-rare markers for a major prize. It is well short of the pace for all such prizes to be claimed. I also find the geographic concentration to date to be a bit troubling, with at least three of the first four top winners all from just one of Albertsons Companies' 35 states.

I'll check back from time to time and report on additional winners when I'm able.

    1. Thanks, your posts are a good reality check. Is it legal to run a promotion based on false hope? I feel like it's misleading and a class action could come out of it? Or is that the name of the game with this stuff?

      Delete
    2. My first reaction was to say, sure, it's all legit as long as it's all spelled out in the fine print, but I'm no legal expert. I can honestly say I've never seen a contest quite like this. Compare, for instance, to Publishers Clearing House, which is offering $7,000 a week for life (a much bigger prize than Albertsons). The odds in that contest are 2.4 billion to 1 -- but *someone* (not me) is going to win that prize in a drawing from all entries received. Or a state lottery, where everyone pretty much knows the jackpot could roll over to any number of subsequent drawings. In the Monopoly contest, however, the $1 million was not won in either of the past two years as far as I can tell. It's possible that it's *never* been won. That changes this year with the "last chance" drawing, which I believe is new. But you could still have only one million-dollar prize claimed out of the six offered, and just a small number of those in the second tier (home makeover, vehicles, etc.)

If anyone were going to challenge this, I would think it would have to be a group of at least a few state attorneys-general, with a goal of making the contest promotion more transparent. PCH was sued by several states more than a decade ago for mailings that made it look like the recipient had already won the top prize; they settled and that's the reason why any mail you get from them these days says about six or seven different ways that you have not won anything yet. This is a bit different, but I don't think it would be that hard to find some shoppers who said they made purchases from these stores just to get the tickets, thinking they were only "one away" from winning. Whether that misdirection is any different from an ad for shampoo that says it'll make you look sexy, I dunno.

    3. Jeff thanks for educating us about this game, how do we let those who promote such strategy to and about this game to hear our voice. My problem with this game is their employees steal boxes of game pieces and sale them for a ridiculous price which takes away from the game. I've notice for the years I have played some of the same winners and last initials. I am the one who only need one piece to every prize just one!!how sad for all the hard work you put into this game,

  4. Last year I won a $10 Gift Card. Considering the odds, I'd say that proves I am one lucky son of a something or other. So far this time around I've won a Fandango $5 gift card (bought Aries Darkside Zodiac by Stella Hyde, and Aquarius, and a couple songs by Death Cab), a couple worthless online things Nickelodeon calls prizes, a donut or bagel, six free tickets, and the online cooking course that actually looks interesting.

How do you redeem them for Amazon? I just looked at my Fandango rewards-- I have probably $45 worth, and there is nothing about Amazon.

      Delete
    3. When you "continue" to redeem the fandango redemption, choose the bottom selection "digital". You complete a form and then a document is created with a $5.00 visa card which you then go onto your amazon account and "add a credit card". It has to be in your name to match your amazon account. It is time consuming but worth it. I hope this helps.

    4. But you can only use one card at a time?
IE every time you pay at checkout, you use that, then use a real card or does it have to be under 5?

    6. OK, I followed Anonymous's instructions and added a $5 Visa account to my payment methods in my Amazon account. I have about a dozen Fandago rewards so I can do the same thing for like 12 $5 Visa cards, right? That total is $60 then. If I want to purchase something on Amazon say for $55, how can I use 11 of these Visa Cards ($5 each x 11 =$55)? Can you "stack" them i.e. use more than one Visa $5 card to pay for the purchase? Will Amazon allow this? If so, how does one do this? Help PLEASE!

    7. Have not tried to purchase anything yet, but the Visa Virtual Card number that you get is stated specifically for digital content purchase only. In addition, you can only purchase digital content worth $5 or less at a time. Any purchase over $5 will be declined. You will not be allowed to use 2 forms of payment.

"Search for digital content such as music, movies, apps, eBooks (up to $5.00) and proceed with purchase. When making a purchase, your order total must be less than or equal to $5.00 (plus applicable taxes). If your order total exceeds this amount, your purchase will be declined. You will not be able to use two forms of payments at online merchants, so make sure your transaction is equal to or less than $5.00 (plus applicable taxes)."

    9. You can go to Amazon.com and purchase a RELOADABLE Amazon gift card. In doing this, you can load each $5.00 Virtual Visa card number you have. Note: i noticed that early on in the game, that after earning 10 Fandango tokens you could ONLY redeem them for $5 TOWARDS a movie selection on the Fandango site. I have two said Fandango "rewards" like that (Worthless to me). However, I have gotten $60 in Virtual Visas and used them as described above! Cha-Ching!

    10. You don't have to buy digital content. Once you get the Visa card, you simply by an Amazon gift card for $5, then turn around and apply it to your account. You can do this with as many of them as you want and it gives you a credit on your account which can all be used at once to buy whatever you want. I bought a toy for my kid.

  5. I see all these people trying to trade pieces for very expensive prizes. This seems like it'd be a scammer's playground. What is the best way to do deals without someone being scammed out of a valuable game piece or cash?
I'm thinking lawyers and escrow accounts would be the only safe way to do this.

    1. No kidding, I'm wondering yhe same thing- I have a semi are piece and now have to figure out how to go in half with someone, or how do you confirm they dont have a fake piece?

      Delete
    2. Here's how I would do it. You have to send each other photos of the rare and semi-rare tickets. Then you each have to agree to meet at one or the other's home town because you would want to redeem at the store where one of the pieces was obtained. You probably should agree on sharing the travel/lodging- car rental costs for the one travelling. When you meet, you go into the store to claim as joint winners. Hiring a lawyer would give you peace of mind.

      Delete
    3. Remember though that the $1 million prizes are all 30-year annuities, which complicates matters enormously. Albertsons is under no obligation to recognize "joint" winners and I think would be pretty reluctant to do so.

      Delete
    4. We figured this out two years ago. At the time, the rules said only one winner. (You would have to read the current rules again to double check they have not changed. I did not prior to posting this.) Marketing department confirmed same at the time. Thus, this means you should partner with someone in your state and do a contract with them. I would not partner out of state unless you arrange for payment prior to tendering your ticket.

      Delete
  6. SECOND REPORT ON WINNERS
An update on winners through March 21 has just been posted on the Monopoly game website. This covers a little less than half the period for distributing tickets and about 37 percent of the time period to redeem tickets for a prize.

As of March 21, the highest prize awarded is the home makeover, with just 1 of the 25 prizes claimed. None of the $1 million cash/vacation home prizes (both are actually a 30-year annuity, but you knew that already, right?) or the 15 $100,000 cash prizes have been claimed. So for now, the $1 million "second chance" prize is still up for grabs.

Two of the college tuition and 10 of the family vacation prizes have been won out of the 50 (of each) available.

Similar results on down the line, it's not until you get to the $1,000 grocery gift card that you see anything above 13 prizes awarded. In that category there has been a combination of 76 prizes (markers plus online prizes) out of 100 available, and I would note that at this prize level there is only one "rare" marker needed, not a rare and semi-rare. But only 40 of the 600 smart watches have been claimed.

All of this still in line with my previous remarks here about the unusual difficulty of winning a top prize in this game, due to the need to collect both a rare and semi-rare marker. (Scroll up to see those remarks). With several more weeks of winners since the first report, geographic distribution of winners now seems to be pretty even.

    1. I do think the odds of winning any significant prize with just the pieces you get from the grocery are close to impossible. Im sure they distribute the semi rare and rare pieces in completely different parts of the country. Games like this are designed to only allow a certain percentage of wins to occur...... The good news is it looks like they have improved this game to fairly award one of the larger prizes to one customer in each region ($5K in groceries up to $40K home makeover). You can find this info in the Rules page. (This appears to be separate from the 2nd chance grand prize $1M drawing).. I'll post the verbiage below... I think this is good news, and a motivation to enter codes online because thats where the drawings will occur)..

      2ND CHANCE SWEEPSTAKES:

Random drawings from all MONOPOLY online codes entered, and all MONOPOLY mail-in entries for each of Sponsor’s 14 Divisions, (ACME, Denver, Eastern, Houston, Intermountain, Jewel-Osco, Northern California, Portland, Seattle, Shaw's, Southern, Southern California, Southwest and United) will occur on February 15, February 22, March 1, March 8, March 15, March 22, March 29, April 6, April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3, and May 10, 2017 and one (1) winner from each division will receive a $1,000 Grocery Gift Card.

In addition, a bonus drawing will be held and one (1) winner from each division will be selected for prizes as follows: February 22, 2017 - $5,000 Grocery Gift Card; March 7, 2017 - $10,000 Family Vacation Prize; April 26, 2017 - $20,000 College Tuition Prize; and June 2, 2017 - $40,000 Home Makeover Prize.

Odds of receiving a MONOPOLY Online Coupon Code are 1 in 2.05 game tickets.
Odds of winning a Division Drawing prize depend on the number of eligible entries received.

Each division is identified by zip code and each participant’s zip code will determine the division.

If you have previously registered for the Online Game or the 2nd Chance Sweepstakes use your same e-mail and password to enter additional Online Coupon Codes.

Online Coupon Codes may only be entered once, either online or by mail.
MONOPOLY Online entries must be made by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (“PT”) on May 24, 2017 to be eligible for the 2nd Chance Sweepstakes.

  7. To use the $5 Fandango codes on Amazon, just log in to your Amazon account, then go to "Your Account", then go to "Amazon Wallet", then choose "Add a Credit or Debit card." You can add a new payment method using your Fandango "virtual visa" as a "Credit or Debit card." Each code is a $5 debit code. Hope that helps!

  8. Soooo close to using my fandango codes as Amazon credits! But I cannot for the life of me get the funky code with both letters and numbers to work as a debit or credit card number and I also have no clue what to put for the name or expiration date?

I'm really not good at this :D

I even tried it as a gift card :(

Does anyone know how to get the code through as a debit or credit card? So far I have three redeemed Fandango promo codes for $5 each! But we can't afford to go out to the movies. The codes might be wasted on us. LOL!

Thank you to everyone for your assistance! I sincerely appreciate your time and energy on this:)

I'm staying hopeful that I will ultimately figure out this conversion:)

    1. When you redeem your Fandango Reward, it has to be $5 toward the purchase of Digital Content Online. Then to your Amazon wallet and add as the debit card. When the redemption is made for the Digital content, the way they redeem it and send a backup email to you, has all the info of a regular debit card with the exp date and security code. Make sure that you read the info as to how you can use it.

    2. Can you purchase anything on Amazon successfully with it? Or is it only digital content on Amazon? Thanks.

  9. Regarding Fandango tokens: I just bought 8 tickets online using the $5 coupon for each ticket. You are able to use more than 1 coupon for each transaction. You just have to get the code for each redemption through the code history. But I saved $40. I saved more than I spent for tickets. There was a $12 convenience fee though, but still a good deal.

  10. FYI, those trying to use the Fandango as Amazon, if you want to spend more than $5, you are unable to. You do not have the option to compensate for the rest. That is the disclaimer I received. I tried to make a purchase beyond $5 and it charged the other credit card on file.

    1. You can use each $5 Virtual Visa Debit to add to your Amazon Gift card balance and then make your purchase (on Amazon)

    2. I just talked at length with Amazon Customer Service. I was told this doesn't work with Virtual Visa Cards due to a bug in their system. Are you saying that you CAN do this and if so, how did you add to your existing GC balance using the $5 Virtual Visa card? Please explain. Have you done it with several virtual Visa cards and added each of those $5 amounts to an existing Amazon Gift Card balance and then bought something that was more than the balance in your Amazon Wallet containing your Gift card balance? They said the way it works is that it uses your gift card balance FIRST and then if there is a remaining balance, it will ask for a credit card. This is all confusing to me and several others on here. Please clarify. Thank you.

  11. THIRD REPORT ON WINNERS

We now have an update on prizes claimed as of April 7. The most significant news is probably that one of the 15 $100,000 cash prizes has been claimed, going to a shopper in Illinois. None of the higher prizes has been claimed, which means the $1 million "second chance" drawing still is in play for now.

There is still only one of the 25 home makeover prizes awarded and two of the 50 college tuition prizes, no change in either case since March 21. There have been 15 family vacations awarded but thanks to the keen eyes of Anonymous 3/28/17 11:17 am above, we know now that almost all of these probably were won by a random "bonus drawing" in each Albertsons regional division (as Anonymous found in the fine print), NOT by matching game pieces.

Otherwise, the statistics continue to show that it is very nearly impossible to win one of the top eight prizes (family vacation and up) by matching game pieces. Respectfully, I would like to remind readers here of a point I have been trying to make from the beginning -- that you are never "just one away" from a small prize or "just two away" from a major prize. At this stage in the game, everyone who has obtained 150 or more markers probably has nearly all of the "common" game pieces. Game is designed that way. That's true for me, and in my view I am no closer to winning than I was on February 7. I would have to obtain something on the order of 5,000 additional tickets to increase my odds of winning by 1 percent (if my math is correct). For now, I'm settling for free iceberg lettuce, spaghetti and more donuts than I care to eat, all courtesy of the instant-winner tickets.

    1. And really, you have to be in the right state, in the right city, in the right store, at the right cashier, at the right time, where the winning game piece/s are. Just like state lottery scratch offs. When I think about that, I think of what a long shot it actually is. But, I still play; I buy some groceries at Jewel and get game pieces, might as well open them and check. At best, I've gotten free item coupons like a canister of salt, cream cheese, aspirin, etc. If I win a $5 gift card, I'd consider it a jackpot.

  12. FOURTH REPORT ON WINNERS

The latest update on winners covered only an additional four days, through April 11. There are about 45 days left to claim prizes.

The $100,000 cash prize remains the largest prize claimed so far, so the $1 million "second chance" prize is still in play. Still only one home makeover and two college tuition prizes claimed, no change since March 21.

It looks like the "progressive jackpot" is pretty hard to get, too. Only three awarded so far, but one of them was for more than $135,000. The other two were for about $7,500 and $12,400.

P.S. I have a lot of extra non-rares if anyone is needing those. Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that all of the "rare" and "semi-rare" pieces will be the first piece of the four on the card. I believe this because that is the only piece with a control number on the back. Any piece without a control number could potentially be counterfeited.

Once I do that, it takes me to a web page that reads "VER EN ESPANOL", CANCEL" or "CONTINUE". Being a non-Spanish speaking person, I click on "CONTINUE".

After that, the next page that comes up reads "To access your reward information, please re-enter the email address which was originally registered for this account." and

"For security purposes, we must ensure that this information matches our records."

I enter my email address, the exact email address which I originally registered with for this account. I also enter the Security Code as shown and then click on "CONTINUE".

Once I do that, the following error message comes up:

THE SECURITY CODE YOU ENTERED IS INCORRECT. PLEASE TRY AGAIN. (ERROR CODE #2009)

There is no way around this that I can find. My email address IS correct and IS the one I originally registered for the game.

  29. FIFTH REPORT ON WINNERS

We now have statistics on prizes claimed through April 18, with just 21 days remaining to distribute tickets and 42 days left to claim a prize. Congratulations to all winners, big and small. As always, I try to be informative here and not cynical. For the major prizes, however, the picture is as bleak as ever.

The biggest prizes claimed through April 18 are still a $135,700 progressive jackpot, a single $100,000 cash prize (of 15 up for grabs), and one home makeover (of 25 offered). Neither the $1 million cash nor the $1 million vacation home (three of each) have been awarded.

None of the $35,000 vehicles (25) have been claimed. Two tuition prizes, four 4-wheelers and 17 family vacations, including one to a lucky woman from Texas who posted a message higher up on this board. But 14 of the vacations probably are from the Mar. 7 "bonus drawing" for each Albertsons division as noted by Anonymous 3/28/2017 11:17 a.m. So it's possible only three vacations were won by matching up tickets. All of these are 50 prizes each (not counting the bonuses).

This means that of the top 221 Monopoly game prizes (family vacation and up), only 11 had been claimed as of April 18, or 5 percent of the prizes up for grabs in those categories. I am subtracting 14 of the family vacations, assuming they were awarded through the "bonus drawing." (If these 14 were supposed to be part of the 50 total, then the figure is more like 11 percent of the prizes claimed.) It's just a little better down the list with 17 of the 100 laptop computers claimed.

It's worth noting there will be 14 college tuition prizes (one per Albertsons division) awarded through random drawing on April 26 and 14 home makeovers (not until June 2 for some reason). SO the numbers on those prizes will look better eventually.

  47. Don't do this at home; your account will be suspended. Awhile back I reported here that even as you erroneously mistype one character in the code string, you may or may not win something accordingly. Well, tonight I decided to recheck all my codes and found one that had won a Fandango code, but had one character erroneously entered. I put in the correct code and it was also a Fandango winner. Then I thought, would going through the whole alphabet and repeatedly replacing that one character produce more winners? Mostly, yes, until I got to M or N--and then I couldn't enter any more codes. Then I got signed out all of a sudden. When I tried to sign back in, my account got suspended. I deserved it, yes, my curiosity got the best of me. But how interesting that there's that loophole that's too easy to exploit. Maybe if their app worked as it should and simply scanned the bar codes, my mind wouldn't have wandered where it shouldn't have! :(

    1. Update: I created another account using another email address. I entered ALL of my old codes again, and of course any previous winners wouldn't come up as winners again. But I expected the popup to say that the codes have already been entered. Instead, they ALL said (the Monopoly ones only, NOT any of the Nickelodeon ones) they are eligible for 2nd chance drawing. I thought that was strange--but if I happen to win any 2nd chance drawings, I'll take it!

    2. The same thing happened to me! I was entering codes and won a $5 Let Life Bloom reward but realized when I hit enter that I mistyped the last number. So I re-entered the code with the correct number and again I won $5 from Let Life Bloom. So my curiosity won as well and I tried entering the code repeatedly just changing the last number and it worked a few times and then cut me off and suspended my account. I also created a second account but didn't try entering the codes again - that's a good idea! I emailed the tech support to see if I could get the old account reactivated and they said it was suspended for fraudulent code activity and would look in to it and get back to me. It's so close to the end of the contest, I'll just continue entering codes I get under the new account. It was my fault thinking I had cracked the code but I too thought the codes would be a little harder to figure out!

  65. Here is an FYI for you:

    1. Over 50% of the top prizes end up in the trash. Many people who get them at the store counters at checkout do not play the game and simply toss the pieces in the trash. Some just give their pieces away to someone else as they walk out the door.

    2. Some of the old folks who are playing the game never go on the internet. They may have the rare winning piece but are missing a or a few of the common pieces. They do not know they have to "winning" piece, the game ends, and their board goes in the trash with the Million Dollar winning piece on it.

    3. The promotion is run for several reasons. To get extra product sales for the stores and the biggest reason is as a tax write-off. The full value of "all" prizes is written off as a liability expense even though only a few of the top prizes are ever claimed (over 50% as mentioned end up in the trash). The companies participating, even though they payout for some prizes, the tax write-off and up-tic in sales is greater than the cost of the prizes awarded.

If you are missing that one "rare" piece to win, and it can not be found on the internet, it is probably being held by that little old lady who never goes on the internet. So get creative. Put up notices in stores, on bulletin boards in stores and churches (those bingo gals love to play games) listing the one piece you need to win. Who know, you may just connect with that one piece you need.

  68. I would really love to win the $1,000,000 cash prize or the Vacation home... for me and my 70 year old mom. We are homeless and could really use the money to buy a home for us. I just need 8Z07G & 8Z08H for the Million dollar prize. If anyone could help us win that prize, it would be greatly appreciated... I know that everyone wants to win the big prize but mom and I could really use a home to call our own. Thank you.
I'm also just missing the rare pieces for the $100,000 prize and the Vacation home prize, if anyone out there is feeling really generous and has those pieces.

  89. Game is rigged in some way or another. For the employee game, if you look at the official rules and see how many prizes are supposed to be awarded with the actual number of claimed winners already, they don't match up. For example there was only supposed to be 1 prize of the $10,050 Nickelodeon Vacation, but there were 2 winners listed on the website. There were more $5,000 cash prizes awarded than stated in the rules. There was also another prize in the winners list that said a Hawaii vacation which is not even listed as a prize in the winnings of the official rules. The running jackpot was awarded to 3 people already in excess of $150,000. So I am wondering, who has access to knowing the winning codes that are "awarding" themselves or people they know.

  91. SEVENTH REPORT ON WINNERS

Another week has gone by and we now have information on prizes claimed through May 3. Still no million-dollar winners, so the 2nd chance drawing is still possible.

One additional "home makeover" has been claimed, for a total of two (out of 25 prizes available) in this category. The first $35,000 vehicle (out of 25) also was claimed.

I see 10 tuition winners listed, up from two last week, but I believe the majority of these probably are "bonus drawing" winners. There should be at least 14 new tuition winners, one for each Albertsons division, so I can't explain why this number isn't a little higher.

By my count, 27 of the top 221 prizes awarded through matching game pieces now have been claimed (i.e., not counting my best guess of the "bonus drawing" winners), or barely 13 percent of the top prizes up for grabs.

  113. Today I finally googled about this shameful scam game and found this helpful site. Wish I had done it back in February. It would have saved me many wasted hours and lots of money not to mention all the extra calories purchased in unneeded products. The problem is that the game is so extremely deceptive. I got sucked in early when 23 of the 31 categories only needed one more marker. The other eight only needed two. It turns out I had none of the "rare game markers". That was back near the beginning of the game with less than 1,000 markers accumulated. Now I have over 4,000 and still no "rare game markers". The exact same thing happened to my neighbor. Albertsons, etc. is really playing us for suckers. I'll be shopping elsewhere now. "Fool me once and shame on you. Fool me twice and shame on me." Never again!
